Nordegg is located on the Eastern slopes of Alberta's majestic Rocky Mountains. It is approximately 200km West of Red Deer and 100km East of Saskatchewan River Crossing near the Columbia Ice Fields and the British Columbia border. Relax around a campfire and enjoy the spectacular night skies. With no street lights in the area you get a front row seat to the brilliant constellations.

There is something for everyone out here. Swing into history and enjoy incredible views at the Historic Nordegg Golf Course or dive deeper into history at the Historic Mine site and Historic town site. See Alberta's first CIBC building along with other beautiful old buildings from the era.

There are numerous lakes in the area offering ample fishing and paddling opportunities. Gear up your bike and hit one of the many cross-country and downhill trails in the area or head over to the Pump Track located at the Discovery Park. If you would rather gain some altitude then take advantage of the many climbing spots and via ferrata in the area.

If you are staying with us during the colder months a trip to see Crescent Falls beautifully crystallized and the stunning frozen bubbles at Abraham Lake are a must! Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ice climbing can be enjoyed in the area. A toboggan hill and outdoor ice rink can be found next to the community hall.

Please enjoy the area respectfully. Respect all signage and come prepared for the adventure you plan on taking weather that be the proper registration and insurance for motorized activities, WIN cards for anglers, hunting tags and so on. Nordegg is just a stone's throw away from glacier lakes, helicopter rides, horseback trail riding, climbing areas, rivers, waterfalls, freshwater lakes and lots of fishing areas. It is less than an hour to Kootenay Plains, Jasper National Park and the Icefields Parkway. You could hike the historic Howse Pass or enjoy ice cream at Saskatchewan River Crossing.

A few notes about the area:

  • The closest international airport is Edmonton (YEG) 275km away.
  • There are very few amenities out here, so come out for your visit prepared. Nordegg has a gas station with a small store, seasonal liquor store, historic Golf Course that offers hot meals (seasonal), a few seasonal cafés and a restaurant.
  • The closest town is Rocky Mountain House which is 90km away and has a hospital.
  • There is an Ambulance and Fire Department in town for emergencies.
